Nuggets’ Rudy Fernandez out for season with back injury
Former Trail Blazer guard Rudy Fernandez, now with the Denver Nuggets, will undergo season ending back surgery, the team announced on Thursday.
Fernandez spent his first three years with Portland from 2008-11 and was a fan favorite and had a solid rookie year. Until the 2011 season when his performance started to slip rapidly and his public desire to leave Portland and return to his native country of Spain, the Trail Blazers traded him to the Dallas Mavericks over the summer. Dallas then in turn sent the Spaniard to the Nuggets where he was averaging 8.6 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Fernandez has had back problems since his time in Portland, he has missed several games with the Nuggets and according to Sports Illustrated, “the injury flared up during Monday night’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Further examination showed that Fernandez needed surgery.”
